THE CITY OF CASTALLA

feria san Isidro 2011 Alcalde de Castalla

Located in a beautiful valley which has its name, La Foia de Castalla, and surrounded by nature, we could find the city of Castalla near the hill crowned by the Castle. Only 30 minutes far from Alicante, you discover this privileged place surrounded by mountains as L'Arguenya, Maigmó or Catí.

The capital of La Foia receives us under its indelible shape and invites us to walk through the streets full of history. Lordly houses, hundred-years-old palaces, churches and lovely winding streets take us towards the majestic Castle, an eternal witness of the city history.

Its gastronomy delights us with delicious dishes, like the famous gaspatxos or the delicious handmade desserts: sequillos, cocas, toñas, ice creams and homemade confectionery.

As it is surrounded by land, its fields give excellent wines, almonds, and an incomparable olive oil The natural wealth of Castalla offers the possibility to enjoy the practice of some activities on open air, like trekking or cycling, especially on the Xorret de Cati place.

The climate is Mediterranean, but, since it is on the mountain, it could snow in winter.

Visitors fit into the community thanks to the friendly and warm character of its people during the local festivities and traditions. Moors and Christians, vaquillas, and the Holy Week appear on the holiday calendar of the city. However, the San Isidro Fair is, with no doubt, the best recreational way to show the visitor the wide offer of its commerce and services.

The economic activity focuses on the industry. In spite of being in the middle of the Toy Valley, we could find important firms manufacturing toys, furniture, doors, plastic or cartons.
